tutorial : baby boy soft cap

when I browse through the baby blogshops [which I do oh-so often..hehe] I find it hard to find caps/hats for my baby boy...girls hat..yes..a thousand and one different patterns and colours, but when it comes to boys selection..adoi....its like close to impossible... [exaggerate much! lol!]

one day, i went into a baby store and found this..

yeay!! a cap for my baby..its soft and very2 comfortable coz the material is the tshirt-like material..so its soft for baby's head..so anyways..hubs complained that its too baby-ish.. i mean with the hippo on the cap...i was like..erk..?? its a baby cap..what do u expect syg..??

anyways...i was looking at the cap and thought "i cant make this...it looks easy enough to copy..."

so I instantly went home and start digging for old tshirts that I dont wear anymore...did a little bit of sketching and drawing...and cutting and sewing...and i finally made this...

a combination of green and black..very the hip-hop dont u think?? hehe.. i used two of my very2 the small-never worn for 3 year- bodyglove tshirt....nice or not? hehehe

then i thought..hmm...why not share the love? so here it goes...the tutorial...i hope its clear enough to understand...

you can download the BABY SOFT CAP TEMPLETE here.

1. cut 12 pieces of the curvy-triangle, you can mix the colours accordingly..the basic is 6 pieces for the outlayer and 6 pieces for the inner-layer. [i used 3 green, 3 black for the outerlayer and 6 white for the inner- all fabrics i cut out from my unused tshirts]

cut 2 pieces of the front cap [i forgot to take pictures, i'll put it in the pattern later]

cut a piece of hard interfacing, iron on the top side of the front cap, and sew both right side together...

turn the front cap inside out, and top stitch the top cap.. you'll get something like this..

sew the curvy-triangles right side facing together....sew all six of the outerlayer..and you'll get something like this...

topstitch the outerlayer..and get something like this..

do the same thing with the inner layer..but leave 2 1/2 inch on one part..like below

take both inner and outerlayer and sew right side together

remember to put in the front cap..in between the layers..this part is a bit tricky, so do it carefully...you can pin it first to make sure the position of the front cap is correct.. [sorry..forgot to take picture]

also..try to align the inner and outer layer together so that it will look better..

turn the cap inside out and sew in 2 1/2 inch of elastic band at the back of the cap..use the 2 back triangle of the cap...this one you have to use your imagination, coz it took me 1/2 n hour to make it right...i dont know how to really explain...just trial and error.. [not a very good tutorial huh??] lol!

lastly, sew the opening in the inner...you can do it however you like...me, i'm the lazy type..just use machine...see..even the thread i'm lazy to change colour! ;p

and then you have it! your own baby cap!! ;) soft and comfortable for your lil munchkin!

and now theres two! ;)

Anna Patchwork House

eversince Aqil was born, my sewing machine has been collecting dust somewhere in mom's house..[brought it there to jahit-jahit but never found the time to do it]..

and then I saw this camera strap cover at Made by Maya..one of my favorite craft blogs..she makes just the most cutest dresses for her daughter...of course the sewing mood came straight back..so I googled for designs and fabric...unfortunately those fabrics she uses are crazy expensive..and need to be pre-order/order from US...sgt bukan seorang yg penyabar diri ini..heheh...

so i googled somemore and found Anna Patchwork House blog..and guess what..she has a store in Sunway Pyramid!!

but of course I had to go usha the shop at once..so called up Aye, asked if Aqil is ok...of course he is..Wa took him out..that manja little boy..huhu...

so after work, I went straight there...and felt like I was in heaven!

Kak Anna, the owner, is a very nice lady..she opened this store of hers almost one year ago, where she quit her 8-5 job and pursuit in something she's most passionate about..I envy her..I wish I could do that..maybe one day bila ade rezeki..insyaAllah...

boots to bed.

on my second cup of nescafe today.

sleepy. headache.

woke up as early as 4am this morning coz needed to send hubs to KL Central before 6.45am.

yes. his going for audit again. this time. Papua New Guinea. 2 weeks. hmm..

talking about hubs, bought him a new pair of boots for his trip since he's going to audit a *something* factory where he is required to wear boots for safety..

its that front-hard type of boots. i dunno its name. whatever.

he was so excited when we got back. he wore those boots all night long!

he even said he was going to wear them to bed! of course he didnt tho..mmg kene tido luar laa klu bwk naik katil kasut but tuuu...[kidding banggggg!!! ;p]

haha! like a kid getting candy. but I guess that happens when you seldom buy stuff for yourself..typical hubs. he only buy stuff when he thinks he really2 needs it..me on the other hand...well..lets not get into that topic..i just got another "tak habis2.." from hubs darling last Saturday..nak buat camne bang...bini abg ni bnyk betul keinginan..hahaha..

hmm..

will I miss him? I dunno... before this there was no Aqil to keep me company.. but I guess I will...I depend on him too much.. ;p


last Saturday was SIL's birthday...treated her the Baskin Robins Ice Cream Fondue for her bday... delish!! ;)

what a morning!!

* the sound of Aqil crying *

opened my eyes...while giving Aqil his "drink".. looked outside the window..

wah!! so bright? what time what time..???

wait patiently for Aqil to finish his meal.. ran to my hp that I was charging outside my bedroom [my ho which was out for 2 days straight!]

took a quick glance at the time..already 9!?!?!?!?!?!!

practically ran to the shower..took the quickest shower ever..thinking..nvm..i've got my perfume to cover up...

put on the pants i wore 2 days ago to work..my bros tshirt..because thinking i didnt have time to find any other top...and the tudung wore by my SIL yesterday..because it was hanging, so no need ironing...

woke up hubs, ran down..took the keys..went straight to the car...and off....

drove at 70km/hour coz my head was still dizzy..luckily the road was clear...

reached ikea.. and found this..

not one single car in the carpark!!!

weird.

texted my colleague "have you reached Ikea yet?"

he replied " ?????????? i tot our arrangement at 9.30??"

what the???? whats the time now..??

looked at the time on my hp.. 9.45 PM !!! urghh.. i guess 2 days of flat battery does that to ur time settings....

looked at the watch on my dashboard... 17.55... whatt???

called hubs, no answer..

called cousin.... "its 8.30 am kak ct..."

seroiusssssllyyyyyy!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

sat in the car...staring blankly...now what I am suppose to do for another hour!?!?!

having the greatest headache ever...

mentally slapping and cursing myself for being so nice volunteering to buy stuff for the office...

then remembered there was McD just accross the road..

thank god!

anyone told you guys..McD has the best coffee ever!? seriously..better than coffee bean n starbucks.. [well at least for me]

then at 9 am, ikea was open for breakfast..

so many people having breakfast at ikea..on a Sunday morning..

while waiting for my shopping buddy...I did this..

the budget for todays shopping..left the original at the office...huhu..

went straight back and slept

i first heard about this event last year thru my cousin Syu [its an all night long event till morning - celebrating the cancer survivors! - with tents, foods, good spirit and great company] , and eversince then I was looking forward to go to this year's event..but one can only plan...my In Laws were in town that weekend for a kenduri so I had to be the hostess since they were staying over at our house...plus it was raining heavily and as what I heard from family members who were there, the place was soggy and very muddy...so it wasnt really suitable to bring lil Aqil there...[mom had already bought tickets - but nvm at least i got the tshirt!! ;)] hmm...I guess there's always next year right.. ;)

the good side of not going is that I got to take my MIL n SIL shopping at Ikea! any sentence with the word shopping in it is ok for me!

flowers and hantaran

eversince i change to this new team, work has been crazy hectic! everything is back-to-back...payment-reporting-back to payment-crest..yada yada yada..and the BPs are like crazy demanding [of course la, they pay us what!]..these past 3 days i've been ordering fast food for lunch - not healthy at all!! [tula..padan muka sape suruh tuka team yg buat full set!] I've been cursing a lot - i know, BAD BAD! but despite all that..i love my work! dont ask why..i just do.. ;p

today, I'm on leave coz tomorrow my BIL is getting married...I volunteered to make his hantaran...i thought..how hard could it be kan to arrange some flowers on a tray? haha..now i have no idea what i'm doing..currently everything looks like this:

i gtg...its raining cats n dogs outside and i think i see lightning...need to turn off the modem..

of work n the gilmore girls

work has been hectic.as usual. but i am back to the active me. volunteering doing this and that altho i have tons of work.sometimes i just dont understand why i volunteer in the first place.especially when i see piles of invoices on my desk to be processed and paid with so limited time.i am doing 3 things at one time. multi tasking people say.sometime i get so stressed and curse myself for saying yes to everything.





but then again. this is me. i love to multi task. life is boring without adventure. work is boring without activities..tho i do think this company of mine sometimes go way over their heads on company activities. like decorating competition. i mean. we're not in school to do all this decorating things. and those teams which go all out..they really do go all out and sometimes i feel i'm at the pasar malam with evrything hanging here and there..but I do like the engagement activities..hmm..





I am itching to start sewing again..but until i finish all 7 season of gilmore girls, i dont think i can focus on anything else..[i am just obssessed!!! ] i am working on my BIL hantaran for his wedding end of this month..but by "working" i mean..everything are still wrapped in papers or still in the plastic bags. huhu. but i still got 2 weekends to go..and i'm already watching the 7th season. so all is good.





i am thinking of sewing a baju melayu for lil aqil...anyone has any idea where to get the pola for that? or should i buy? do they have baju melayu for 3 months old baby?





ops.work is starting. payment week is almost at its end. alhamdulillah...i can have a peaceful weekend ;)

hip hop

it has been a hectic week (still is) since its closing period..wanted to blog a couple of times but managed to write halfway then was distracted by work and baby..have 3 drafts which i think will be left as drafts..hmmpphh...i guess i'll write in points from now..

* i think blogshops are very2 dangerous sites!do you know theres a hundred sites selling cute and cheap baby stuffs which are just irresistable..I've done with Aqil's raya clothes in just 2 hours! haha...mostly are pre-Orders so I have to wait a month or so to get the goods..I hope i wont go ordering more after this..

* i can fit into my ol jeans and pants thanks to PB! but I have problems with my tops since I am still bfeading my baby..went to find new tops but find it so hard to find nice cool tops that can fit my sisters.. :( I am now wearing hubs tshirt and shirts to work..huhu..

* where I normally took 30 minutes or 1hour tops to get ready before going out before, now with the baby I need to start getting ready atleast 2 hours before we go out...last Saturday, we planned to travel to my cousins wedding in Johor at 8am, but after Aqils bath-BF-stomachache-nap-BF again, we ended up leaving the house at 10am...I now know not to make any promises, especially when it concerns time...it all depends on the baby now..

* today is the first day I'm sending Aqil over to my aunt's..my cousin Aye has kindly agreed to babysit Aqil for a while...went out as early as 6.15am (initial plan was 6am) to avoid trafic after sending him (my aunts place is in Subang btw..) , but wahh... even at 6.50am..the trafic was slow...but managed to reach office at 7.15... so oklaa... wonder how he's adjusting at Wa's.. miss him already.. :(

* bought Aqil a sweater from FOS..konon2 when we're out shopping he could wear the sweater..but since the H1N1 is getting worst..melaram dalam kereta jer laa... Aye said "hip hop giler" but ape2pun..he's just so cute in it!!!

first week at work

wahh....i can see spiderwebs everywhere...a long break from the blogging world.. not that I dont have anything to write about..but I have been spending all my precious time [besides being obsessed over my lil pumpkin] watching Criminal Minds season 4 & 5 and have been drooling over this guy....



he's just so cute and adorable....seriously...i just love the way he's being all smart and mr-geeky in CM..;p

anyways...

it's been a week at work..and suprisingly..all went well...my SIL is looking after Aqil for 2 weeks before she starts her classes...so I leave Aqil at home, maybe thats the reason I'm not that worried about him..

first ride to work [i drove myself! yippie!!] was great..i had my cd with my favourite songs on, turn up the volum of the speaker and sang at the tops of lungs while driving! gosh!! how i missed that!! i used to do that all the time before I was pregnant..eversince mr hubs drove, I stopped doing that..ok..not stopped..but not very often i could do that..so i was in cloud nine that morning.. ;p

the first day at work...or the first week at work..i didnt really miss my lil toddler..owh..I sound like a bad mother no? but coming back to work on a Payment week does that to you...I was so overwhelmed with work..I had no time to even think about anything else except for invoices and vendors and BPs... i even went back as late as 8pm at night...sian lil Aqil..but hubs came back early so all is good...plus my Aqil always wait for me to come back before he goes to sleep..so I get to play with him for a while.. ;)

talking about my precious..he's so big now..he doesnt look like a 2 month old infant..he feeds a lot too..more than before..I guess you could expect that from a baby boy...I cant wait for him to learn how to walk..people say nanti letih kejar..but I say..baguslaa..boleh kurus! hahaha...well we'll see.. ;)

today is pay day with salary increament..not much..a bit dissapointed pun ade..i mean..we work like crazy but feels like all that is unappreciated..hmmpphh...tapi nak wat camne kan...keje pun baru 2years plus..takkan nak demand tinggi2 kan...knowledge pun besar biji limau jer ade hati nak gaji besar...a few colleagues of mine from my old team dapat naik pangkat...with great increaments i tell you...rase rugi pun ade tuka team..but i told myself i wanted the experience and the knowledge..so i should not regret my decision..insyaAllah rezeki ade nanti...I am happy for my colleagues though...I am not jealous..a bit envy i must admit..but I made my choice and I am happy with my work and team now...and i think its good for them to get the promotion...after all the work they have done for the team..they deserve it.. ;)

today is the last day of Payment..thats why dapat tulis panjang2 ni...cant wait to get home to my baby..[baru harini rindu die cam giler coz keje siap tghr tadi..and now i'm free like a bird..] hehe..but i feel like going to Ikano to shop for clothes...i have no clothes that I can fit anymore!! since i am still bf ing, I have to wear loose tops to hide my sisters..and my old clothes cannot do that...takkan nak pki baju kurung everyday kan...penatlaa nak gosok pagi2..i want big longsleeve tshirts so I can wear during my malas days to work.. hehehe...initially I wanted to go out tomorrow with lil Aqil but when my friend told me about the 2nd wave of H1N1 [nampak sgt tak bace paper or tgk news smpi member yg kene kasik tau psal ni]..so i think not...baby Aqil is still small and his immune system tak kuat lagi...but tak sabar nak jumpa die malam ni...or i could go tomorrow and leave him with hubs....hmm...should i go tonight or tomorrow..?? decisions..decisions..

I am now rambling and typing everything that is going thru my mind..i better stop before it goes somewhere much more ridiculus...25 minutes lagi nak balik! yes!
